Safety

Essential guidance to help you use VIA7 and deal with property listings more safely.

1. Verify the other party

Confirm the advertiser's identity and contact details, and request appropriate documents before making a decision. Do not rely only on the information shown in the listing.

2. Verify the property

Visit the property where possible and confirm the address, location, actual condition and the information stated in the listing.

3. Review the documents

Check ownership, authorisations, contracts and relevant legal documents. Consult a lawyer or real estate professional when the transaction is significant or unclear.

4. Avoid suspicious payments

Do not send money or advance payments before fully verifying the other party, the property and the documents. Avoid untraceable payment methods and unjustified urgent requests.

5. Keep communication secure

Never share passwords, verification codes or sensitive banking details. Use VIA7 messaging where possible and keep a record of conversations and agreements.

6. Meet in a safe place

When meeting someone for the first time, choose a public and safe location, tell someone you trust where you are going, and avoid going alone if you feel uncomfortable.

7. Watch for warning signs

Be cautious of unrealistic prices, pressure to decide quickly, refusal to provide documents, requests for direct transfers and inconsistent explanations.

8. Report suspicious activity

If you notice a misleading listing, fraud, threats or misuse, use the report page so the VIA7 team can review it.
